Miss Arkansas F.A.C.S. kicks off summer cereal drive

Pageant-winning Angela Sexton is spearheading a two-county cereal drive to curb child hunger.

Sexton, who alongside her husband Dallas owns Goosehead Insurance, told members of the Arkadelphia Lions Club on Thursday that she hopes to reach or exceed a goal of raising $15,000 for Arkansas Foodbank by the end of June.

The Arkansas Foodbank matches each dollar raised with a box of cereal. Local pantries that serve the community receive food directly from the Arkansas Foodbank.

Sexton’s team is dubbed F.A.C.S. Queens & Friends (F.A.C.S. stands for Fight Against Child Starvation), which over the past 5 years has collected more than 50,000 boxes of cereal.

Arkansas ranks first in the nation for food insecurity — not knowing where your next meal will come from. Sexton noted that’s not a statistic the state can be proud of.

The mother of three shared her own experiences with food insecurity, as she worked her way through college at Henderson State University on a single income. It’s because she has experienced food insecurity that she’s now battling child hunger in Clark and Hot Spring counties.

To help Sexton reach her goal, a drop-off site is at the Goosehead office at 2503 Pine St. Suite 1, Arkadelphia, or CLICK HERE to make a monetary donation by June 25.
