Satellite girls, Cocoa Beach boys and girls win district swimming

Cocoa Beach swept District 1-5A swimming and diving championships on Wednesday, and Satellite won the girls title in District 2-5A on Friday.

Cocoa Beach's boys won their meet with a 413-363.5 edge over West Shore, while the girls defeated the Wildcats 415-383. Satellite's girls scored a 382-379 win over Titusville.

Lucas Kravchenko of Merritt Island won two individual events in 2-5A, including the 100-yard backstroke, where his time of 50.62 seconds qualified for all-America consideration. He also took the 200 free (1:42.67).

Cocoa Beach's girls won the 200 freestyle relay, and Bethany Stein won the individual 200 freestyle (2:10.52).

In boys competition, the Minutemen won the 200 freestyle relay and 400 free relay. Joey Scales won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.75 seconds and the 100 free (53.42), while Kyle Loi took the 100 fly (57.06) and 200 intermediate medley (2:07.84).

Regional volleyball begins Tuesday

Brevard County high school volleyball teams that won or finished second in district tournaments last week will play regional playoff games this week.

Merritt Island will host Tavares in a 6A regional quarterfinal, while Satellite will visit Bishop Moore, and those two winners will meet on Nov. 1. In 5A, Holy Trinity will host McKeel, while Astronaut will play at Lake Placid.

Merritt Island Christian will play Wednesday in a 2A regional semifinal at Geneva. All games are at 7 p.m.

Mumme sets school passing records

Satellite quarterback Noah Mumme has established three school records in the last two games. With 220 passing yards against Fernandina Beach, he reached 1,891 yards for the season, a Scorpions record.

In the 49-6 win over Port Orange Atlantic on Oct. 12, he passed for single-game records of 379 yards and six touchdowns.
